College students seem to have a reliance on caffeine to get them through lectures and late night study sessions, but there are healthier alternatives to power through the day.

Football escaped an upset against the University of Kansas Saturday, winning in Lawrence, Kansas 34-30. Aaron Green rushed for two touchdowns and Cameron Echols-Luper ran 69 yards for a punt return touchdown in the third quarter. TCU will likely fall out of the week’s College Football Playoff picture, especially considering No. 5 Alabama’s gritty win over No. 1 Mississippi State.

Men’s Basketball began their season Friday with a 71-54 romp of Prairie View A&M. Center Karviar Shepherd recorded his fifth career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.The Frogs have won 13 of their last 15 season openers.

Women’s Basketball played twice. The Lady Frogs also opened their season Friday with an 87-64 rout of Houston Baptist. But they lost 62-53 Sunday against the University of Georgia to move to 1-1 on the season.

Two of three TCU cross country runners posted season personal-bests Friday at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Arrin Rice ran a 22:01.1 6K, beating her best by 23.6 seconds. Bailey Sullivan ran a 22:03.7 6K, beating her best by 21.5 seconds.

Volleyball lost a heartbreaker at Iowa State in five sets. The Frogs came back after being down two sets to one. They came back from 23-21 to win the fourth set. Regan McGuire recorded a career-best 15 kills in the loss.

Equestrian dominated Kansas State 13-2 Friday. The Frogs are 4-1 (2-1 Big 12) and haven’t lost a home match to a Big 12 rival since Feb. 2013.

Rifle wrapped up their fall competitions Sunday in Columbus, Ohio against the Ohio State University. The Frogs resume in the spring season in January against Air Force and Coast Guard.
