TCU students can now intern in eight different countries.

The TCU Center for International Studies, which partners with International Education of Students (IES), is now offering study abroad internship opportunities in Milan, Italy; Paris, France; and Santiago, Chile.

The program will also continue to offer internships in Barcelona, Spain; Dublin, Ireland; London, England; Rome, Italy; and Sydney, Austrailia.

“The program was a huge success last summer, as TCU sent 13 students to Dublin, London, Barcelona and Sydney,” said Jesica Severson, study abroad coordinator.

Having to choose between studying abroad or gaining internship experience is no longer a choice TCU students have to make.

“The program is great because it is a guaranteed internship,” said Severson.

Students with at least a 2.8 GPA, two semesters of credit at TCU and who are in good standing with the university are eligible to apply. Severson said almost all students who apply and meet the requirements are accepted.

Each student in the program gets matched with an adviser. The two then work together to find an internship that matches the student’s interests and career goals.

The adviser finds multiple options for the student and matches him or her with a potential employer. Students later interview with the employers via Skype.

“At the end of the summer, I had the opportunity for a full-time position at Barcelona Media, but had to come back to finish school,” said Sarah Perez, senior communication studies major. Perez interned in Barcelona last summer.

Study abroad students are charged for two things: TCU tuition and a program fee. Tuition is the same regardless if a student is on campus or abroad.

Fees for semester programs range from about $4,000 to $8,000. Summer program fees range from about $1,000 to $4,000.

“Program fees are basically the cost of housing (and perhaps a few incidentals like insurance) and vary across programs depending on the duration of the program and the cost of housing in that particular city,” Severson said.
