TCU didn’t just return to the top four of the College Football Playoff rankings Tuesday night.

The Horned Frogs leapfrogged undefeated Florida State to No. 3 in the rankings.

With one week left in the regular season, TCU looks primed to participate in the inaugural football playoff with a win over Iowa State at home Saturday.

TCU and Baylor have been involved in a rankings debate for the past few weeks, but CFP committee chairman Jeff Long set the record straight Tuesday.

“We believe TCU is a better football team than Baylor,” Long said.

Alabama and Oregon remain at No. 1 and No. 2 in this week’s rankings.

After Florida State at No. 4, Ohio State is ranked fifth and Baylor comes in at No. 6.

Alabama will take on Missouri in the SEC Championship game this weekend, and Oregon will play No. 7 Arizona in the PAC-12 Championship.

Florida State plays Georgia Tech in the ACC Championship, Ohio State takes on Wisconsin, and Baylor will host Kansas State.

If the season ended today, TCU would play Oregon in the Rose Bowl.

The College Football Playoff committee will release the final rankings this Sunday at 11 a.m.
