Head football coach Gary Patterson won 17 of 20 votes to be awarded the Associated Press Big 12 Coach of the Year award Tuesday afternoon.

Patterson, who was named head coach in 2000, coached the No. 6 Frogs to an 11-1 season this year. Patterson’s overall record is 131-45 in his 14 seasons at TCU.

In just their third season in the Big 12, the Frogs are co-conference champions with Baylor. TCU bounced back in a big way after last season’s 4-8 record.

Prior to joining the Big 12, Patterson coached the Frogs in the Mountain West, Conference USA and the Western Athletic conferences.

Patterson is not the only person from TCU to receive AP recognition. On Monday, quarterback Trevone Boykin was named Offensive Player of the Year and linebacker Paul Dawson won Defensive Player of the Year.

Patterson is also the 2014 AFCA Regional Coach of the Year and a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award.

The Horned Frogs will take on the No. 9 Ole Miss Rebels on Dec. 31 in Atlanta at the Peach Bowl.
