    TCU artist-in-residence José Feghali dies

    TCU artist-in-residence José Feghali dies

    José Feghali, artist-in-residence and coordinator of Internet Technologies in TCU’s School of Music, has died according to an email from TCU Provost Nowell Donovan.

    Feghali’s death was ruled a suicide, according to the Tarrant county medical examiner. Police found him Tuesday around 5 p.m. with a gunshot wound, according to the police report.

    A visitation for José Feghali will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Greenwood Funeral Home at 3100 White Settlement Rd. in Fort Worth, according to an email.

    Feghali, a Brazilian pianist, was the winner and Gold Medalist of the Chamber Music prize at the seventh Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 1986. According to the biography on his website, he has preformed on stages such as Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Ambassador Auditorium and Chicago’s Orchestra Hall.

    He has served as artist-in-residence at the School of Music since 1990 appeared in more than 1,000 performances worldwide, including appearances with such orchestras as the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, London Symphony, Warsaw Philharmonic and more.

    Richard Gipson, director of the School of Music, said, “We are shocked and profoundly saddened at the passing of our beloved and respected friend and colleague, José Feghali. His passion for music and for teaching was infectious, as was his curiosity and thirst for knowledge about virtually all subjects. José was a brilliant pianist with a brilliant mind. His influence at TCU, in Fort Worth, and indeed the world of music, was and will remain truly significant.”

    Feghali was 53 years old.
