Coach Gary Patterson has earned five coach of the year awards in the past month, but TCU’s Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Chris Del Conte revealed Patterson has received more than just accolades this postseason.

“He is taken care of through the end of the decade,” Del Conte said.

Patterson’s previous contract ended in 2018, meaning the extension adds another two years onto Patterson’s tenure.

Patterson has been at TCU since 1998 and is the Horned Frogs’ all-time winningest coach.

Del Conte remarked on Patterson’s contract after a Tuesday afternoon press conference when TCU accepted a formal bid to play in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

Gary Stokan, president and CEO of the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, said that the Peach Bowl representatives believe the TCU vs. Ole Miss matchup is the best bowl game outside of the College Football Playoff.

“It’s the best scoring offense against the best scoring defense. We couldn’t write a better script,” Stokan said.

Stokan also praised Patterson for his handling of the CFP process, saying that the TCU coach showed class throughout the entire process and showed his players how to handle adversity.

Patterson said his team feels as if the Peach Bowl is a playoff game and they have been excited about it from the moment they found out they were headed to Atlanta.

Patterson added that he has a good relationship with Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze and he received a text Monday morning with Freeze asking for a favor.

“I just want to request my Christmas gift, and that’s if you can line up in a one-base defense,” Patterson said Freeze sent at 6:50 a.m. Monday.

The Horned Frogs are anticipating a tough matchup against a team that was ranked No. 3 in the nation earlier this season, but Patterson promised they are committed to winning.

“TCU since we’ve been here and I’ve been here 17 years, it’s about how you win,” Patterson said. “It’s about having fun, but we spell fun: W-I-N.”

After Stokan said the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl is hoping to sell out the Georgia Dome for the 18th consecutive year, Del Conte made a promise of his own.

“It’ll be 18 years sold out, I promise you,” Del Conte said. “We’ll have purple reign in Atlanta, fear the frog.”
