The men’s club volleyball team heads to Arlington on Saturday to compete in the Southern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (SIVA) North Tournament.

This weekend’s tournament will have 15 teams competing from schools such as North Texas, Texas and UTA.

The women’s club volleyball team is also playing in the SIVA North Tournament this weekend, but they are hosting the event at TCU.

The games began at 8:15 a.m. Saturday morning.

For the men’s side, junior supply chain major Mark Branagh said the team needs to improve defensively before heading to Arlington.

“A few things we need to work on is general defense,” Branagh said. “Our blocking was on point, but our back-row defense was struggling. If we can clean up our back-row defense and small errors, such as missing serves, we will play much better as a team.”

Even though the team has a few things to work on, they tied for first with Baylor in its opening tournament last weekend.

“Last weekend was my first tournament with the club team,” said first-year speech pathology major Billy Perez. “We won almost every match we played and we ended up getting first place. We’re hoping to get first [this] weekend as well.”

The team is competitive, but also very laid back.

“It’s a relaxed environment,” Branagh said. “It’s a really fun atmosphere. We joke around while still trying to work to get better.”

TCU is hoping to have a chance to play for nationals at the end of the semester in Kansas City. The team has yet to commit to nationals due to long-distance travel and funding issues.
