TCU head football coach Gary Patterson announced the official signing of 21 TCU commits Wednesday.

Patterson stressed the importance of recruiting over half of them from the Metroplex.

Of the 21 signees, 18 are Texas players, with 11 of 18 players coming from the Metroplex. The remaining three players are from Louisiana.

Patterson also emphasized why changing the Horned Frogs’ offense has impacted recruiting.

“The offense is why we started changing it for recruiting,” Patterson said. “We didn’t want the guys to be able to leave the state or leave the area, and I think we did a good job of keeping some of them home.”

The 2015 signing class is ranked 26th by Scout.com, which is the second-highest class rating in school history.

Patterson was very complementary of his recruits during the press conference.

He said KaVontae Turpin, a three-star wide receiver from Louisiana, has the potential to remind fans of former TCU running back BJ Catalon, who declared for the NFL draft in January.

Patterson said this wouldn’t be the first or last time players from Louisiana have the “Frog Factor.”

“Go find guys that fit your program and can make plays,” Patterson said.

Wide receiver Arico Evans from Dallas also committed to TCU, and Patterson said Evans has the chance to be special.

“[Evans] has size, speed and a lot of smarts,” Patterson said. “He has a temperament that all the great ones have.”

Patterson added part of the reason he likes the 2015 signing class is that majority of them chose TCU during the 2013 season when the team went 4-8.

“They picked the university for the right reasons,” Patterson said.

Alec Dunham, Mike Freeze and DeShawn Raymond are recruits from the 2015 signing class who are already on campus and preparing for spring training.

Four-star prospect J.F. Thomas was another prospect that had been committed to TCU since April, until he flipped to Texas Tech on Wednesday morning.

Kicker Jonathan Song did not sign with the Frogs because he intends to grayshirt, which means he’ll delay his enrollment so that his eligibility clock won’t begin until his second semester.

Wide receiver Darrion Flowers did not sign either because he plans to attend TCU on a track and field scholarship.

There could be another prospect who signs with the Frogs late.

Former Miami verbal commitment Terrell Chatman was supposed to announce today, but Chatman said he needed more time to talk to his parents about his decision. He tweeted that he’ll make announce his destination on Thursday.

The wide receiver prospect is expected to choose between TCU, Georgia and Arizona State
