TCU is coming off of a season-opening sweep against Southern Illinois this past weekend. The Frogs outscored the Salukis 32-4 during the three-game series.

TCU freshman catcher Evan Scoug and senior shortstop Keaton Jones both hit their first career home runs Saturday.

Senior center fielder Cody Jones is off to a great start this season, posting a .545 average. Freshman outfielder Connor Wanhanen is leading the team in RBIs with five.

The Frogs (3-0) are up against a UTA team Tuesday that has been known to give them some trouble in the past.

Last season the Frogs and Mavericks split two games, UTA winning 10-2 in the first game and TCU winning 12-6 in the second. The third game between the two teams last season was canceled due to poor field conditions and rain.

UTA (1-2) had a tough time in the Stephen F. Austin Tipton Ford Baseball Classic in Nacogdoches, Texas to open up their 2015 season. Their first two games were losses to Missouri State, 7-2, and Washington State, 8-2. They won their last game in the tournament against Stephen F. Austin in blowout fashion, beating the SFA Lumberjacks 18-9 Sunday.

First pitch for Tuesday night’s game at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The pitching matchup has not been set as of yet.

Later in the week, TCU will head off to Phoenix to take on Arizona State in a three-game series this weekend. It will be Arizona State’s second series in their new home at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

The Sun Devils (2-1) are coming off a tough season-opening series against No. 5 Oklahoma State in Phoenix. The first game ended on a walk-off home run by ASU sophomore shortstop Colby Woodmansee in the 10th inning to push the Sun Devils to a 4-3 win. ASU also won the second game 5-3 before losing on Sunday 9-8.

Sun Devils’ sophomore second baseman and late-inning reliever Jordan Aboites has done a little bit of everything so far this season. In the three-game series against Oklahoma State, he hit a double and a triple, collected four RBIs on four hits, and also pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief.

One of Arizona State’s biggest strengths is their two lefty aces, juniors Brett Lilek and Ryan Kellog. Both pitchers were First-Team All-Pac-12 last season. The Sun Devil weekend rotation is rounded out by senior Darin Gillies, who gave up 5 runs in only 2 1/3 innings against Oklahoma State on Sunday.

It should be a great pitching matchup between the two teams on Friday and Saturday with TCU starters Preston Morrison and Tyler Alexander matching up with Arizona State’s lefty aces. Who wins the series may come down to whoever pitches a better game on Sunday between Arizona State’s Gillies and TCU junior lefty Alex Young, who only allowed three hits in six scoreless innings on Sunday against Southern Illinois.

First pitches for the weekend series against Arizona State in Phoenix are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Hear the games live on KTCU 88.7 FM.
