A spiritual organization on campus offers more than prayer and scripture for female students at TCU.

Girls’ Night Out is an event by author and founder of Redeemed Girl MinistriesMarian Ellis Jordan. Other colleges that have participated include Virginia Tech University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Texas Tech University.

TCU joins that list after the Campus Crusade for Christ or CRU hosted the event on campus. The purpose for Girls’ Night Out is to encourage young women in college to seek Jesus Christ and build their faith while dealing with relationships and dating.

“We all model our lives after somebody, so being able to have a positive influence on the lives of those that are younger, I think is very important,” CRU staff member Alexandria McCraney said.

The event included a prize giveaway, a personal testimony from Marian Ellis Jordan, a book signing and musical entertainment from singer Brianna Caprice.

CRU staff member Carson Millender said the CRU offers other outreach events such as trampoline park visits, cookouts and sports game outings.

The CRU began in 1951 at UCLA and has since been established as an organization in 1,200 college campuses, according to its website. The TCU chapter provides a chance for spring break and summer mission trips, bible study, retreats and ministry training.

“We are definitely still kind of starting out as a new organization trying to build up and get the word out more,” Millender said.

The CRU has a Facebook page as well where students can look for and keep up with upcoming events. Meetings for the organization are every Tuesday on the third floor of the Brown-Lupton University Union at 7 p.m.
