TCU baseball expectations are high, but not unreachable

TCU baseball enters the 2015 season ranked second in preseason polls, their highest ranking since being projected as first in 2011.

According to TCU Athletics’ website, TCU returns 13 letterwinners from last year’s College World Series team. Additionally, four of the everyday field starters return as well as eight pitchers.

With such a high ranking and stacked roster, expectations for this team are high.

Shortstop Keaton Jones, who set a school record for assists during TCU’s first game against Southern Illinois, said, “We don’t think about that, those expectations too much. I mean, we have our own expectations.

“We think we’re the best team in the nation, and we just have to go out there and play our offense, our brand of baseball,” Jones added.

Fans are pretty confident TCU can handle the pressure as well.

TCU student Jonathan Harvick said, “I think they have enough talent to eliminate any pressure that’s coming with expectations.”

They certainly handled the Southern Illinois Salukis like one of the best teams in the nation. The Frogs swept the Salukis in their opening series and only allowed one run through 27 innings.

TCU topped the latest Collegiate Baseball poll released Monday after Vanderbilt, the previous spot holder, went 2-1 in their series against Santa Clara.

If expectations were high before, they’re astronomical now
