College students seem to have a reliance on caffeine to get them through lectures and late night study sessions, but there are healthier alternatives to power through the day.

No. 1 Frogs complete sweep of Baylor, win 10-1

TCU fans were told to break out their brooms for today’s game and did not leave disappointed.

The No. 1 Horned Frogs baseball team (14-2, 3-0 Big 12) swept their first conference series at home Sunday afternoon in Lupton Stadium, defeating Baylor (6-12, 0-3 Big 12) by a final score of 10-1.

TCU broke the game wide open in the third inning when Baylor starting pitcher Austin Stone let the Frogs rack up six runs in the third inning with no outs on the board. They led 9-0 until Baylor put up their first and only run of the game in the top of the fourth.

Senior first baseman Jeremie Fagnan said it was great to see his team show substantial run support against Baylor.

“It felt really great to see the bats alive,” Fagnan said.

Fagnan has made it safely on base for the last nine games straight. He also hit his first home run of the season on Sunday.

It was the Horned Frog’s first home run since Evan Skoug’s home run against Texas Southern on Feb. 25.

Skoug also hit a pitch beyond the fence in the sixth inning for his third home run of the season. Skoug extended his hitting streak today by making it on base for the 13th game in a row.

TCU starting pitcher Alex Young started strong keeping the Bears from getting on base in the firsts two innings by putting down all six batters. Young also pitched 1-2-3- innings in the fifth and the sixth.

With only nine batters left in the game, Young retired to Brian Trieglaff in the seventh inning.

Trieglaff allowed one hit and one walk in his single inning of pitching and was relieved by Ryan Burnett in the eighth. Burnett pitched two strikeouts in his reign and gave the closing pitching role to Preston Guillory who pitched a scoreless last inning.

This is the ninth time this season the Horned Frogs have held their opponent to one or fewer runs.

Baylor brought Troy Montemayor in the bottom of the 4th inning hoping to cease TCU’s rising lead. Skoug’s home run in the sixth restored TCU’s nine-point lead by bringing the score up to its final place of 10-1.

Kody Hessemer came in for the seventh to close the game for the Bears.

TCU won the series Saturday night when they defeated the Bears 3-2 on a catcher’s interference in the seventh inning. This came after beating Baylor Friday night 3-1 in their first matchup.

TCU head coach Jim Schlossnagle said Baylor challenged his team throughout the series and was the reason his athletes ended up coming out with the win today.

“We had to come out hot like that,” Schlossnagle said.

This is the Frogs’ 10th straight win at home as well as the Bears’ 10th straight loss of their season.

TCU will continue to keep their winning streak at home on Tuesday when they compete against UT Pan American at 6:30 p.m.
