TCU baseball looks to remain undefeated at Lupton Stadium

TCU baseball looks to remain undefeated at Lupton Stadium

After sweeping Baylor this weekend, Horned Frog baseball will take a quick break from conference play to take on the University of Texas-Pan American before facing Big 12 opponent Oklahoma State this weekend.

No. 1 TCU (14-2, 3-0 Big 12 Conference) will look to extend its current winning streak of six games as the team continues its longest home block of the season.

The first pitches for the Tuesday and Wednesday games between TCU and UT-Pan American (10-6) are both scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Playing in Lupton Stadium has proven to be an advantage for the Frogs, as they are undefeated under the lights in Fort Worth. The Broncs have struggled on the road this spring, winning just one of their five away games so far.

The Frogs are also undefeated against UT-Pan American all-time both at home and under head coach Jim Schlossnagle.

The Edinburg-based Broncs have yet to begin their conference play, but the team has already faced two Top 10 opponents. The Broncs lost to both Texas and Texas A&M.

Lefty Tyler Alexander will open the series on Tuesday night, with Parker Gallegos on the mound for UT-Pan American. Alexander and the rest of the team will be sporting green hats for some St. Patrick’s Day luck.

The next night will be Brian Howard in the purple and white and Brandon San Nicolas in green and orange.

The Frogs boasts a .287 batting average compared to UT-Pan American’s .254, but Broncs outfielder/pitcher Logan Landon leads his team with a .473 average.

TCU outfielder Cody Jones leads his squad with a .387 batting average on the season, but he hit an impressive .643 over four games last week. This performance prompted Jones to be named Big 12 Player of the Week on Monday. The announcement marked the second week in a row a Frog took home this accolade.

TCU takes Thursday off from competitive play to return Friday for a weekend series against the Cowboys.

The No. 19 Oklahoma State Cowboys (13-6) opens Big 12 play against the top-ranked Frogs after playing nine straight games in Stillwater. The Cowboys now have a five-game winning streak after sweeping both Alcorn State and Grand Canyon.

The Cowboys will take on Central Arkansas at home on Tuesday before heading south for Fort Worth.

The last time the Frog and Cowboys met, TCU won 7-1 to take home the Big 12 title.

Oklahoma State holds a .289 batting average as a team, led by outfielder/catcher Gage Green with a .338. Green is one of few collegiate players to be listed at both positions.

The Cowboys lead the conference in on-base percentage with a .397.

Both teams will have the daunting task of facing the TCU pitching staff, which now has a conference earned run average of 1.61. UT-Pan American and Oklahoma State post ERAs of 3.02 and 2.65, respectively.

First pitch against the Cowboys is set for 6:30 Friday night.
