TCU student Natalie Baugh is a regular customer at Albertsons on Alton Road in Fort Worth. Her routine trips to the store recently paid off big time.

Baugh, a senior geology major, recently won $100,000 from playing the Monopoly Collect and Win Game at the store on Alton. Baugh began playing the game in February.

Baugh was presented with a $100,000 check during a ceremony at the store on Alton Road Monday morning. Albertsons staff, members from the Fort Worth Fire Department and local news stations were among those in attendance at the ceremony.

“I’ve been shopping here ever since I moved here,” Baugh said. “I figured I’d put the tickets on the board and see where it takes me and eventually I got all the tickets on the board.”

Baugh said she couldn’t believe it when she realized she had won the $100,000 prize.

“I was in shock. I’ve never won anything like this before,” Baugh said.

The Monopoly Collect and Win Game, which Albertsons participates in, allows customers to receive monopoly tickets while shopping on each occasion. Cash prizes can be won if they receive the tickets needed for that prize over time.

“It’s a game that you play as you purchase products,” said Mike Mead, the store’s manager. “When you pay for your groceries the cashier asks you if you’re playing the game. If you are then they’ll hand you out tickets and you’ll get a game board.”

Mead said he was in shock when he learned that a customer at their store had won the prize.

“The tickets are sent off to the verification process and when it came back as a winner it shocked me and I was just like ‘wow we have somebody here that just won $100,000,’” Mead said. “I mean what would you do if you had just won $100,000?”

Baugh said she plans to use the prize money towards her college tuition.

“It’s a big weight off my shoulders. I’ve been really stressing about tuition ever since my freshman year so I’m just really excited,” Baugh said.
