Equestrian finishes third in Big 12 Championship

The women’s equestrian team claimed third place after defeating defending Big 12 Champion Oklahoma State 11-9 at the Big 12 Championship on Saturday.

The No. 7 Horned Frogs improved to 6-7 overall after scoring a total of 2884.5 points in the final championship standings.

The Frogs defeated Oklahoma State in Western competition with a score of 7-3 and in Horsemanship with a score of 4-1. Sophomore Lindsey McMullen helped secure the victory with a 143.5-130.5 decision over opponent Miranda Reed.

Junior Shelby St. Hilaire claimed her seventh victory of the season with a win in the Reining competition.

Senior Kaitlin Perry was named the Big 12 Most Outstanding Performer in Equitation on the Flat after finishing 2-0.

The win comes after the Frogs suffered a loss to No. 3 Baylor on Friday.

Since joining the Big 12 Conference, the Frogs have had 12 all-conference honorees, two Big 12 Championship Most Outstanding Performers, the Big 12 Coach of the Year, three Big 12 Rider of the Year honorees and two Big 12 Scholar Athletes of the Year.

“We are so proud of our team. Kudos to the Horsemanship team that sealed a close meet for us,” said Haley Schoolfield, TCU director of equestrian.

The Frogs will head to the next competition at the 2015 NCEA Championships in Waco on April 16.
