Mens golf earns third place finish at Chambers Bay

Playing on the course that will be the host of the upcoming 2015 U.S. Open, the TCU Men’s golf team experienced one of the toughest courses of the season.

The 30th ranked Horned Frogs finished in 3rd place at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington Tuesday. On a par-70, 7,303 yard course, TCU shot a combined 43-over 70 finishing behind No.10 Washington University and Seattle University.

Seniors Julien Brun and Andrew Presley led the way for the Horned Frogs placing in a tie for 4th and 7th overall, respectively.

Brun earned his third top-10 finish, carding a 2-over 70 in the final round and ended with a 5-over 70 to complete his tournament. Brun rolled in three birdies, two of which came back-to-back on the back-9 holes. The three-time All-American ended in a tie for fifth.

Senior Andrew Presley, who leads TCU with a team-best 70.89 stroke average in final rounds, continued the trend by carding an even par-70 in his final round.

Presley, a native of Fort Worth, recorded the only eagle for TCU in the first round on the par-5 602 yard 8th hole. In the final round, he rolled in four birdies, three of which came on the back 9 holes.

Presley finished in seventh place, his second top-10 finish of the season. His first came in his TCU debut at Pebble Beach, California in September.

Sophomore Chelso Barrett shot a 3-over 73 in his final round, good enough to finish in a tie for 15th. This was his 7th top-20 finish in 10 tournaments on the season. This also includes three top-10 finishes for the sophomore.

Sophomore Giulio Castagnara shot a 6-over 76 in the final round and ended in a tie for 36th.

Junior Paul Barjon carded a 7-over 77 on his final round. Barjon finished in a tie for 36th place.

The team’s last tournament of the regular season will be an all-day match at the Red Raider Shootout hosted by Texas Tech on April 18.
