The Horned Frogs have blanked their last four competitors and continue on with their winning streak after Friday’s matches against the Cyclones.

TCU women’s tennis (15-7, 5-2 Big 12) defeated Iowa State (7-12, 2-5 Big 12) at home this afternoon 4-0.

TCU head coach Lee Taylor Walker said his main focus was not just in claiming victories and winning games.

“It is winning in a way you can easily repeat,” Walker said.

Walker said this was a game he expected his team to win due to the experience and confidence his team was bringing to the court in their matches. He did say, however, that he thought his team pushed and competed harder on Wednesday against UTA.

“I thought we were a little sharper then,” Walker said. “Some were sharp and overall we were great.”

TCU gained the doubles point after pairs Palina Dubavets/Alexis Pereira and Stefanie Tan/Simona Parajova won their respective matches. Both pairs achieved the lead and held onto control throughout the set with Dubavets/Pereira winning 6-1 and Tan/Parajova winning 6-2.

This was the fourth consecutive win for the Dubavets/Pereira pair and Walker said he hopes Sunday will be their fifth. Walker said the rest of the pairs have found their patterns and know how to work together and now this team is falling in suit.

“We don’t want any week links on the court,” Walker said.

When athletes returned to their courts to compete in singles, Iowa State started strong by gaining the lead on four of the six courts.

Iowa State came out with the first set win of the afternoon with Alejandra Salvis defeating Dubavets 6-1. But, TCU regained control with the other five athletes winning their first sets.

Alexis Pereira and Seda Arantekin were the first to finish their matches both earning points for TCU.

Pereira defeated Iowa State’s Natalie Phippen with by 6-2 then 6-3. Arantekin first won against Iowa State’s Ana Gasparovic 6-2 but later defeated her 6-0.

Stefanie Tan’s victory against Ksenia Pronina added the fourth and final point to TCU’s win. A slow clap came over the crowd as Tan served the game point, which Tan hit to left corner of the court and ended the day’s contest.

TCU came into Friday’s matches on a three-game winning streak after shutting out Oklahoma, North Texas and University of Texas at Arlington.

The Horned Frogs have won 10 out of their last 12 contests while holding a 6-1 record while at home in these previous competitions.

This was Iowa State’s third straight loss against a Texas Big 12 competitor. The University of Texas defeated the Cyclones 4-2 who were then shut out by Baylor 4-0 two days later.

Both contests were held on Iowa State’s home courts in the last weekend of March.

TCU will host another Big 12 team this weekend when they compete against West Virginia at home Sunday at 1 p.m.

When asked about preparing for their next competition, Walker said although Iowa State did win against West Virginia, the Mountaineers fought hard against Baylor proving their capabilities on the court.

“It shows you better not overlook anyone,” Walker said.
