Singing and rapping duo MKTO performed in the Commons Friday and fans showed a positive reaction to the concert.

The duo, made up of Malcolm Kelley and Tony Oller (MKTO), headlined the spring concert as a part of TCU’s weekend program theEnd.

Wisconsin-based band Vinyl Theatre opened the show.

Students said they thoroughly enjoyed the performance and especially loved how much the band got students involved in the songs.

“I loved having the spring concert, I’m so glad TCU had one this year. It was so fun just hanging out,” said Marty Gleaves, first-year economics major.

“They really got the crowd involved, even if you didn’t know some of the songs as well,” said Ashley Celis, first-year strategic communication major.

MKTO sang most of the songs off their self-titled debut album “MKTO” and also sang a rendition of Rihanna’s “Four Five Seconds.” They also sang their new single coming out soon titled “Bad Girls.”

Students said they enjoyed their sound live.

“I thought it was amazing. A lot of times, some people aren’t good live and they were so good,” said first-year strategic communications major Micaela Arias.

Celis said “some people don’t sound exactly the same live, but MKTO sounded awesome.”

The duo threw the frog sign constantly and Kacey Williamson, a sophomore English and writing double major, said she loved how involved they were with the crowd.

“I really enjoyed the concert and I really liked how they incorporated ‘go frogs’ and TCU lingo too,” Williamson said. “My favorite part was when they had the water bottles spraying over the crowd, they got really into it.”

The duo is well-known for their song “Classic,” and saved the hit song for last.

“’Classic’” is one of my all-time favorite songs, I was so excited when it came on,” Arias said.

Williamson said her favorite song was “Classic” as well and she was “waiting for it all night.”

Overall, the concert was an action-packed, fast-paced event and the students said they enjoyed the performance.

“You could tell they were so thankful for the opportunity too. They were so fun,” Arias said.
