The TCU men’s golf team traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma this week to compete in the Big 12 Golf Championship. Taking on five teams ranked in the Top 25, Horned Frogs placed third overall above Oklahoma, No. 20 Oklahoma State and No. 17 Baylor.
The Southern Hills Country Club course TCU played on was a par-70, 7,151 yard course. Last year, the championship was played at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Texas where senior Julien Brun claimed the individual title.
This year, the three-time All-American would fall short of the individual title, but claim a tie for 10th place overall as he finished with a 4-over 74 on his final round.
This was the third time Brun would place in the top-10 in three Big 12 championship appearances.
Fellow senior Andrew Presley also played an excellent tournament.
Carding a 1-under 69 in both the first and third rounds, Presley capitalized on his success by carding a 2-over 72 and finished in a tie for 10th place overall. The Fort Worth native holds a team-best 70.89 stroke average in final rounds this season.
Sophomore Chelso Barrett led the Frogs on the final round, carding a 1-under 69. Barrett played a perfect back nine, adding two birdies, and finished in a tie for 20th place. This was the sophomore’s eighth top-20 finish this season.
After a tough second round, sophomore Giulio Castagnara shot up in the standings, carding a 2-over 72 on his final round, and finishing in a tie for 16th place. This was his second top-20 finish of the season.
Junior Paul Barjon rounded out the score for the Horned Frogs. Barjon rolled in two birdies on the back nine and finished in 39th place.
TCU will learn their fate on May 9 as they look to go for their 26th consecutive postseason appearance. The NCAA Regional field will be announced on the Golf Channel at 9 a.m.
