Frogs confident in abilities

The soccer team will play Boston University and Northwestern State in the Horned Frog Classic tournament this weekend at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium.Players said they do not know much about the other teams because they have never played them and do not watch videos of opponents.

“We don’t ever focus that much on the opponent,” senior midfielder Moran Lavi said. “We watch and learn from ourselves.”

Head coach Dan Abdalla said he also does not know much about the competition, but said Boston traditionally has a good team.

“(Boston and Northwestern State) have both gotten off to great starts this season,” Abdalla said. “It will be a good test for where we’re at, and how our development’s coming.”

TCU evened its record at 2-2-0 Tuesday in Houston, beating the Cougars 3-1.

The Horned Frogs did not start preparing for the tournament until after Tuesday’s game was over.

“We take every game as they come,” Abdalla said.

This is the first tournament of the season, but the players and coach agreed that playing a tournament instead of a game should not change anything.

Junior midfielder Ginny Hubbard said, “It’s games on Friday and Sunday, just like anything else.”

Abdalla said, “We’re trying to get the team to approach every game the same.”

The Frogs will play five of their next six games at home, starting Friday.

“We hope to get some home momentum before we get into conference play,” Abdalla said.

Baylor will also be at the tournament, but will not play TCU.

The tournament winner will be determined by a point system after each team plays two matches.

The team will play its first game of the tournament at 4 p.m. Friday against Boston.
