College students seem to have a reliance on caffeine to get them through lectures and late night study sessions, but there are healthier alternatives to power through the day.

Frogs finish victorious weekend with 7-0 win over Air Force

TCU women’s tennis team finished off a weekend sweep of conference opponents Sunday afternoon with a 7-0 dismissal of Air Force to close the Mountain West Conference regular season.

“It was a good weekend,” TCU coach Dave Borelli said. “I felt like we got a lot of confidence from it. I was happy with how the doubles went all weekend. We’ve got a good senior night match coming up Wednesday to keep working toward the conference tournament.”

The Horned Frogs won all three doubles matches for the second time this weekend, with Federica Denti and Olivia Smith striking first at No. 3 doubles. They were 8-2 winners over USAFA’s Sarah Cassman and Hannah Dake.

Idunn Hertzberg and Gaby Mastromarino put TCU on the board with their 8-5 downing of Christen Monreal and Anastasia Hueffner at the No. 2 spot. Seniors Maria Babanova and Katariina Tuohimaa made it a sweep with their 9-8 (1) dropping of Melissa Cecil and Tahlia Smoke.

Smith got right to it for the Purple and White in singles, continuing her run of hot play with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Cecil at No. 2 singles. The Bath, England, native has won seven in a row in singles and is 7-1 against MWC opponents.

Mastromarino made it 3-0 in favor of TCU with her 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles at the expense of Cassman. She tallied a 5-2 mark this spring in conference play.

Tuohimaa continued to make her case for MWC Player of the Year at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Monreal to clinch the match for TCU. The Helsinki, Finland, native went 7-1 this spring in conference play with all of her matches at the top spot.

Denti added the fifth Frog point with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Hueffner at No. 5 singles. After coming back to lineup from injury this weekend, the Bellano, Italy, native racked up a 3-0 mark and finishes the regular season 5-1 this spring against league foes.

Shalini Sahoo provided point No. 6 for TCU with her 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 (6) win at No. 4 singles and Babanova made it a Frog sweep with her 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Megumi Voight at the sixth singles spot.

With the win, the Frogs improved to 10-10 overall and 5-3 in the MWC. TCU returns to action April 20 when it hosts Midwestern State for senior night. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
