TCU overcame brutal playing conditions to grab a share of the team lead following Saturday’s opening round at the Navy Spring Invitational at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course. The tournament concludes Sunday with the final round of play.

Weather in the Annapolis area was wet, windy and cool Saturday with temperatures in the low- to mid-50’s and steady winds up to 20 mph. Nearly eight-tenths of an inch of a light rain fell during the last 24 hours.

Despite the conditions, TCU managed to card an 18-over-par score of 302, which tied for the lead in the team race with Columbia. The two squads own a five-shot edge over third-place Lafayette College (+23) with 18 holes remaining.

Each of TCU’s five golfers will enter the final day within striking distance of co-leaders Clark Granum (Columbia) and James Braunsberg (Drexel), who share the individual lead at +2.

Two Horned Frogs reached the clubhouse owning top-5 positions in senior Tom Hoge and junior Eli Cole, who are among five players tied for fourth place at +4. The two Frogs both shot 37 on the front 9 and 38 on the back 9. Hoge is looking for his fourth consecutive top-5 finish.

Senior Scott Roudebush and junior Johan de Beer both are three shots back of the leaders in ninth place following opening rounds of 76, while sophomore Daniel Jennevret is tied for 15th place after carding a 77 (+6).
