Lacrosse team shows up Louisiana 15-2, ready for upcoming match

Despite below-freezing temperatures Saturday night, the Horned Frog club lacrosse team defeated Centenary College of Louisiana in their spring season opener 15-2.

Despite a slow start in the first quarter, the Frogs quickly hit their tempo, putting up a score of 8-1 by halftime.

Even with steady winds and a temperature of 29 degrees, the Frogs’ defense held Centenary to two points, giving up only one goal in each half.

“We played well, moved the ball pretty efficiently, and scored when we needed to, (but) there are a lot of things to work on,” head coach Mark Miller said. “I think we can attribute some of the mistakes and turnovers to the cold.”

Sophomore business major Tyler Jackson also said the weather was an issue.

“It was cold, too cold,” Jackson said.

Jackson scored two goals against the Gents’ on Saturday. This is Jackson’s second year as attackman for the Frogs.

Sophomore attackman Cameron Deptula and senior midfielder Davis Felder each put up three goals.

This was Centenary’s second year in the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association and their first contest against the Horned Frogs.
