Men’s golf continues competition in John Hayt Collegiate Invitational

The TCU men’s golf team owned a share of the lead in the team competition following day one action at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational Sunday at Sawgrass Country Club. The tournament continues through Tuesday.

The Frogs combined to card a 6-under par 282 Sunday to match No. 13 Auburn for the lead in the team race. TCU is the lone squad among the five leaders not currently rated among the top-20 teams in the Golfweek/Sagarin national rankings. No. 7 LSU (-4), No. 20 Arkansas (-3) and No. 2 Florida (-2) round out the top 5.

Three Frogs shot under par Sunday, including junior Johan de Beer and sophomore Pontus Gad, who are among a group of five players two shots back of the individual leader, LSU’s John Peterson (-5). Gad and de Beer both finished at -3 following respective opening rounds of 69. Senior Scott Roudebush, who is making his first appearance of the spring playing among TCU’s top-5 golfers, fired a 2-under 70, which tied with six others for 12th place.

Senior Tom Hoge rounded out the Frog scoring with a 2-over 74, good for a share of 41st place, while junior Eli Cole finished +6 following an opening-round 78.

The John Hayt Collegiate Invitational continues Monday with holes No. 19 through 36, as the TCU contingent is scheduled to tee off at 9:30 a.m. ET. Live results for the tournament are available on Golfstat.com.
