No. 8 TCU defeats No. 4 Oklahoma State, continues on to Varsity Equestrian National Championships

Seniors Tassie Munroe and Kelsey Huffman both collected MVP accolades as No. 8 TCU defeated No. 4 Oklahoma State Saturday at October Hill Farm, 12-8.

The Horned Frogs bested the Cowgirls with an overall score of 1,507-1,496.5. TCU not only downed OSU for only the third time in program history Saturday, but also captured its second-straight victory over the Cowgirls at home. With the win, the Purple and White closed their regular season 7-4 overall and 5-1 at home, while Oklahoma State dropped to 6-4.

The Frogs got it rolling early Saturday morning, jumping out to a 4-1 lead in Equitation on the Flat. In her final home outing, Munroe rode Wilbur to a dominating 87-73 decision over Sarah Gesick. The win for Munroe helped her garner MVP honors and moved her season record to 6-4-1. Fellow senior Milana Trimino also had a productive senior day, upending Alice White, 86-78. Haley Jacobi and Callie Selchau were also victorious in the event, defeating Ali Rose and Jordan White, respectively.

In Equitation over Fences, Courtney Motz tallied the lone point for the Frogs, dropping Rose, 76-73.

Overall, the Cowgirls narrowly won Hunt Seat on Saturday with an overall raw score of 790-785 after both teams battled to a 5-5 draw.

On the Western side, the Frogs simply crushed the Cowgirls, cruising to a 7-3 decision en route to a dominating raw score of 722-706.5.

Huffman ended her home career at TCU in fine fashion, earning her fourth MVP accolade of the season in Reining with a 74-66.5 victory over Caroline Daniels. The California native is now 7-3-0 on the season in the event and sits in the top-20 in the nation. Sophomore Kirstie Frydenlund and freshman Devin Spencer also secured points for the Frogs in the event, upending Rachel Houchin and Brianna Parnell, respectively. Finally, Kolby Simonson, a Colorado native, tallied the final point, winning 69-67.5 over Christy McElreath.

Courtney Chown continued her winning ways Saturday in Horsemanship, downing Ashley Kennedy, 74.5-74, to close the regular season with a perfect 9-0 record. Senior Ashley Aikman also scored a point for TCU, upending Marissa Dalton, while Lyndsi Hardin scored a 74.5-73.5 decision over Courtney Whitacre.

The Horned Frogs will next be in action at the Varsity Equestrian National Championships on April 14-16 in Waco.
