Student lost control of vehicle

TCU student Sri Rama Chandra Murthy Vempati lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree on the driver’s side door, which caused the injuries that led to his death, according to the accident report.

Vempati, 21, was pronounced dead at 4 p.m. on Sunday May 16, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s report, the death was caused by a “closed head injury” that occurred during the car accident.

Vempati, best known as Sri, remained on life support until Tuesday morning for organ donation at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth.

According to the accident report, Vempati was the driver of a silver Toyota in the one-vehicle accident that occurred at 400 Forest Park Boulevard Sunday morning.

The report said the crash was caused by speed. Vempati lost control of the vehicle, left the road and struck a tree on the driver’s side door.

He was removed from the car by Fort Worth Fire Department and taken to Harris Methodist.

Vempati, a senior from India, was a triple major in biochemistry, computer information technology and mathematics, according to an e-mail from Don Mills, vice chancellor of student affairs. He also worked at the Computer Help Desk in the library.

A memorial was held in his honor Wednesday morning in the Tucker Technology Center at the university. Friends and teachers gathered to share stories with Vempati’s family who flew in from India.

According to Mill’s e-mail, the university will offer counseling services through the Counseling Center, the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life and the Office of Campus Life.
