Two students arrested in a drug sweep Monday have been released from the Mansfield Jail after posting bond, while an alumnus who was also arrested in the bust remains in jail as of Wednesday afternoon, according to the jail administration.
The students, Cameron Abelson and Timothy Hand, both 19, were arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor, and delivery of marijuana, a felony if the amount is more than a quarter ounce, according to Fort Worth Police. As of early Wednesday afternoon, the District Attorney’s Office had not filed charges against the students, according to the District Clerk’s Office.
Tom A. Little, 24, who graduated from TCU in 2008, was arrested on suspicion of delivery of marijuana, according to police. As of Wednesday afternoon, he remains in the Mansfield Jail on a $1,500 bond, according to a jail clerk.
City and campus police collaborated in a narcotics operation that resulted in the arrest of at least three other people, according to police.
Police said all the men arrested except for one had dealt drugs on campus at some point.
Abelson was arrested Monday at his residence in The Berkeley Apartments on Park Hill Drive, and Hand was arrested in Martin-Moore Hall in Worth Hills, according to police.
Police seized 15 Ritalin pills from Abelson and 2 ounces of marijuana from Hand, according to a police announcement about the drug bust.
Richard James Garvey, 20, German Torres, 20, and Ryan Bartholomew, 25, were also arrested on suspicion of delivery of marijuana and controlled substances, according to the police announcement.
TCU Assistant Chief of Police J.C. Williams wrote in an e-mail that police cannot clarify the relationships of the suspects because the investigation is ongoing.
Police had information about people dealing drugs at off-campus locations and bars, Williams wrote.
“We believe the suspects have sold drugs to students on and off campus,” Williams wrote.
As a result of the drug sweep, police seized 7 pounds of marijuana, prescription medication, $20,000 in cash and three weapons, including an AK-47 rifle and a handgun with obliterated serial numbers, police said.
Police on Monday also arrested 19-year-old TCU student David Harrell at his residence in the GrandMarc on suspicion of possession of 1 ounce of marijuana, a misdemeanor, police said. Harrell was released from the Mansfield Jail on Monday after posting a $1,000 bond.
