TCU in 2nd through two rounds at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate

TCU senior Tom Hoge is the individual leader through the first two rounds at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate at the University of Texas Golf Club. Hoge tops the individual field at 1-under par.

Early-morning thunderstorms rolled through the area before giving way to windy conditions for both of the first two rounds at the par-71, 7,412-yard course. The conditions kept each of the field’s 14 squads struggling to find par.

TCU, which combined for a 33-over-par 601 through two rounds, enters the final day only one stroke off the team pace set by tournament leader Texas (+32). Arkansas is three shots back of the Frogs at +36. The event’s field is an impressive group featuring eight teams ranked among the nation’s top-45 squads.

TCU is looking for its top team finish of the season. Its best showings thus far have come in the last two outings at the Desert Shootout (third) and National Invitational Tournament (fourth), both of which were played within the last two weeks in Arizona.

Hoge carried the flag for TCU Monday, finishing the opening 36 holes as the only player in the field in red figures at -1. After warming up with a 2-over-par 73 to begin the day, he followed with a 3-under 68, the tournament’s low round so far by two strokes. Hoge caught fire in the final round, as he followed up a bogey-par-bogey start by playing the final 15 holes five-under par. The performance marked the Frog’s fourth sub-70 score in his last nine rounds. He will take a two-shot edge into Tuesday’s final round over Texas’ Julio Vegas (+1).

Junior Johan de Beer enters the final day tied for seventh place at +8. He joined Hoge with a two-over par 73 in the opening 18 holes prior to totaling a second-round 77. Fellow junior Eli Cole sits three strokes back of de Beer at +11, which ranks tied for 23rd place. Cole recorded respective rounds of 76 and 78.

Rounding out TCU’s team scoring for both rounds was senior Scott Roudebush, who is tied for 35th place at +14 following identical scores of 78. Sophomore Daniel Jennevret shot 80 and 79 in his two rounds and enters Tuesday in a tie for 49th at +17 overall, while junior Matt Johnson, who is competing in his first tournament as a Frog, is tied for 70th (+23).

TCU concludes the Morris Williams Intercollegiate Tuesday with the final round, which is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Live results are available at
