TCU track & field competes coast to coast

The TCU track & field team will be splitting up to head to opposite ends of the country this weekend for two meets.

Some Horned Frogs will compete today in the 53rd annual Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. Other team members will compete Saturday at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational, held in Gainesville, Fla.

The track & field team is coming off a good showing at the Texas Relays in Austin last weekend. Senior sprinter Jessica Young placed first in collegiate entries for the 100-meter race, and was named the Mountain West Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.

OJ Stoneham, Charles Silmon, Mychal Dungey and Mark Barnes, the competitors in the men’s 4×100 relay team, ran the No. 1 time posted in the Mountain West Conference with a time of 39.38 seconds.

The Mt. SAC Relays will include running events, hurdles, steeplechase, field events and three different distance relay races. Last year at The Mt. SAC Relays, senior Rose Tanui broke the TCU women’s record by running 5,000 meters in 16:13:30. Festus Kigen, also a senior, ran the second-fastest time in program history, completing the men’s 5,000 meters in 13:52:06.

The Tom Jones Memorial Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida, will include both running and field events.
