The frigid cold will continue through the weekend, but students coming back after the break should not be worried about ice. Luckily for those traveling, there is no chance of precipitation and no signs of weather warnings, said Joe Harris, meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

The temperature will get below freezing again late Friday night and stay cold Saturday afternoon with a high of 37 degrees according to weather.com. Early Sunday morning will see temperatures in the mid-20s, while the high for the day is 43 degrees according to weather.com.

Wind speeds are also supposed to die down over the weekend, Harris said. Temperatures are expected to return to the lower 50s starting on Monday, he said.

The freezing weather has already presented changes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area this week. The Red Bull Nolan Showcase, one of the country’s premier high school girls’ soccer tournaments, had games moved to the Sam Baugh Indoor Practice Facility at TCU for the weekend. Teams from California, Florida and Texas were originally slated to play their games at Nolan Catholic High School and TCU’s outdoor Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium .

Matt Colvin , co-director of the tournament and head coach of the Southlake Carroll girls’ team , said the move to the indoor stadium did not present too much of a problem.

“Most of the girls are probably grateful they are playing here rather than outside,” Colvin said.
