Women’s soccer beats Air Force in overtime

The women’s soccer team faces a quick turn around game Saturday against Wyoming after beating Air Force in overtime Thursday.

“We got the win today and in conference play; that is all that matters,” head coach Dan Abdalla said. “We found a way to get the result against a Mountain West Conference opponent.”

Senior midfielder Michelle Nguyen scored the deciding goal in the contest against Air Force in the 93rd minute off a penalty kick. The goal was her second this season.

TCU outshot Air Force in the match 14-5, including a 6-1 advantage in the first half. Sophomore forward Jordan Calhoun led the Horned Frogs in shots with five, while sophomore midfielder Katie Runyon and Nguyen each posted three on Thursday afternoon. Junior goalkeeper Kelsey Walters saved four shots in the afternoon match.

With the win over Air Force, TCU enters the match against Wyoming with a 8-6 record overall and 1-1 in the Mountain West. Wyoming comes to Fort Worth with a record of 7-4-2 overall and 1-0 in the Mountain West.

Last year’s game against Wyoming saw the Cowgirls win over the Horned Frogs by a score of 1-0 in Laramie, WY.

Calhoun, then a freshman, led the Horned Frogs in shots with five, but came up empty in the loss.

After a back-and-forth game in the second half, the Cowgirls connected for a goal late that went by sophomore TCU goalkeeper Kelsey Walters, now a junior, for the lone score of the game. Walters recorded four saves in the game.

Calhoun leads the Horned Frogs in goals this season with eight. Senior forward Lizzy Karoly is second on the team with five goals. Calhoun also leads the team in assists with six. Nguyen is second on the team with three assists.
