Women’s soccer upsets No. 15 UT

The Horned Frogs women’s soccer team was victorious in Austin Friday night by the score of 2-1, dethroning the No. 15 ranked team in the nation.

Sophomore Jordan Calhoun netted the game winning goal in the 85th minute . Junior Jackie Torda played a through ball between two Longhorn defenders, setting up Calhoun for the finish past Longhorn keeper Alexa Gaul.

Calhoun also netted the first goal of the game in the fifth minute of the match from 15 feet out off an assist by Sophomore Kaylie Garcia.

“I think it’s a great start to our season,” Calhoun said. “Especially winning on the road since we have a lot of away games this season.”

TCU lead in shots for the night putting 14 on frame, with eight coming in the second half. Texas countered with eight; only putting three on net in the second half.

TCU notches their first win of the season in their season opener while Texas drops to 0-1-0. This win broke Texas’ 26-game home winning streak.

“It’s a good win. Anytime you go on the road and get a chance to beat a team of their caliber it is good,” said head coach Dan Abdalla. “Give our kids credit, they came out in the second half and really went after them. They worked hard and got a result because of it.”

The Horned Frogs will face the Mexican National Team next Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium. Visit dailyskiff.com for a live chat during the game to talk all TCU sports.
