Historic Farrington Field In Spotlight On Friday Night

Fort Worth ISD’s historic Farrington Field will be in the spotlight when the 2010 football season kicks off on Friday, August 27, 2010. The Carter-Riverside High School Eagles will take on the North Dallas High School Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. in the only Fort Worth ISD game this week.

Listed as one of Fort Worth’s Most Endangered Places, Farrington Field has undergone a $1.5 million dollar facelift this summer.  The summer renovations to this athletic facility were funded by the $596.3 million bond package approved by voters in November of 2007.

As part of the pre-game festivities, Superintendent Melody Johnson will participate in the coin-toss between team captains.

Fans and players will immediately see newly cleaned, sealed, power-washed and painted surfaces as they enter the facility. Inside, field renovations include new artificial turf and a new running track. Other improvements will include:

•    Public restrooms brought up to current accessibility standards
•    Refurbished locker rooms
•    A new public address system

FWISD even recycled the previous grass field by replanting it at school campuses around the District.

Notable among Farrington Field’s features are the relief sculptures created by local artist Evaline Sellars. The male figure is modeled after TCU football star “Slingin’ Sammy” Baugh. The female figure is an unknown track and field athlete.

Other FWISD athletic renovation projects include the Scarborough-Handley Athletic Field and the Wilkerson-Greines Athletic Fields with both projects scheduled for completion in 2011.
