Alexa Landestoy thanks the trailblazers before her and hopes to continue to inspire women in sports.

Music in the 109, Feb. 26-March 3

Take a break and check out the music scene in the 109 this week.

 

Stay Wired Coffeehouse and Computer Services will celebrate “Customer Appreciation Day” Wednesday, Feb. 29. The coffeehouse will offer customers $1 cups of coffee all day, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Enjoy your discount while listening to Blue Stained Shades and Synaesthetic Kaleidoscope and the Band of Merry Pranksters, starting at 8 p.m. 

 

Mammoth King, Odder Moniker and 11:40 will play starting at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29 at the Aardvark. Mammoth King is an experimental/progressive rock band from Dallas and Odder Moniker a rap/punk band from Fort Worth.

 

Michael Brand, a rock/alternative singer, will play at 11 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29 at Buffalo Bros. 

 

Head to Stay Wired Coffeehouse and Computer Services Thursday, March 1 for open mic night. Signups are at 8:15 p.m. and show starts at 8:30 p.m.

 

Rob Cavender, an accoustic/country singer and guitarist, will play at 9 p.m. Thursday, March 1 at the Aardvark. Cavender is from San Antonio and a junior at Texas Christian University. 

 

Vanilla Face Jones will play at 11 p.m. Thursday, March 1 at Buffalo Bros. Band member Ben Napier serves as the guitarist and one of the three vocalists. Napier is also the vocalist for Keepin’ It Real and Automorrow. Vanilla Face Jones plays popular rock cover songs from the 1960s to present.

 

Rich O’ Toole will play at 9 p.m. Friday, March 2 at the Aardvark. O’ Toole is a Texas country singer from Houston, who is backed up by three guitarists and one drummer. Three of O’ Toole’s songs, "Queen of the Misfits, "When Kelly Comes to Town" and "Alone," made the Texas Music top ten. Also, his album, Seventeen, was named “Best Album of 2006 That No One Told You About” by the Americana Music Times, according to todaystexascountry.com.

 

Bryan Lee will DJ starting at 11 p.m. Friday, March 2 at Old Rips.

 

Just across the street, Andrew Reebs will play at 11 p.m. Friday, March 2 at Buffalo Bros.

 

Red Bull will host a Collegiate DJ Event starting at 9 p.m. Saturday, March 3 at the Aardvark.

 

Sim Platt and Company will play at 11 p.m. Saturday, March 3 at Buffalo Bros.

 

Grab a sandwich at Potbelly Sandwich Shop and listen to Andrew Sullivan’s tunes from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, March 1, and from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3.

 

Sing karaoke Wednesday, Feb. 29 at The Bottom, Tuesday, Feb. 28, and Thursday, March 1 at the Cellar.
