Ash Wednesday Preview

Ash Wednesday is tomorrow and all the following churches in the 109 have services planned to rejoice and mark the beginning of Lent:

Arborlawn United Methodist Church

Ash Wednesday Service: 6:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary.

St. Andrews Catholic Church

Ash Wednesday Mass: 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Ash Wednesday School Prayer Service: 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Ash Wednesday Prayer Service: 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Ash Wednesday Mass: 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

St. Stephen Presbyterian Church

Ash Wednesday Service times:

12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

5:15 p.m. to 6 p.m.

7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

According to St. Stephen’s website, the first service will be “solemn full of liturgical imagery, imposition of ashes, music, and prayer. Come to the Education Building into the Chapel.”

The second service is child-friendly:

“Come and bring your child to our 5:15 service to learn about the Christian symbolism associated with roosters and hens and their importance to Christmas, Lent and Easter. All children who attend will be given a rooster/hen for keeping.
The service is held in the Crossing of the Sanctuary.”

Following the second service will be a Spaghetti Supper in Parish Hall. The meal is free.

Everyone is invited to the Ash Wednesday Service held in the West Transcept of the Sanctuary at 7 p.m.

Trinity Episcopal Church

Ash Wednesday Service times:

8 a.m.

Noon

4 p.m.

7 p.m.

According to Trinity’s website, the 4 p.m. service is designated for children:

“A special service for children will take place in the chancel area of the church. Children will be invited to enter a Holy Lent using language and prayers designed for the young and the young-at-heart. While nursery care will be provided, infants and very young children are welcome to attend this service and will be encouraged to move around as needed to be comfortable.”

UCC

Service of Ashes will be held in Fellowship Hall around the Labyrinth beginning at 6:30 p.m.

According to UCC’s website, the service:

“Will feature instrumental music by lute, viola de gamba, and piano. Join us for a meaningful worship of prayers, music, and scripture and then take time to walk the Labyrinth until 9 p.m.”

University United Methodist Church

Ash Wednesday Service is at 6:30 p.m.
