Girl Scouts conduct business in the 76109

Staked out in front of Buffalo Bros on University Drive, area Girl Scouts are working hard to reach their goal of selling 2,000 boxes of cookies.

Presley Purdom and Ashley Canady, 10-year-old Scouts in Troop 3015 greeted potential customers along the sidewalk Friday behind stacks of boxes.

“This is my first year,” Canady said.

It is also the first year for a new Girl Scout cookie flavor: Cranberry Citrus Crisps, which Purdom said was created for health-minded cookie connoisseurs.

“But as for me and Ashley, we like Thin Mints,” she said.

The Scouts plan to remain at the location through Feb. 22 and have sold about 500 boxes so far, Tonya Purdom, Presley’s mother said.

Selling cookies provide Girl Scouts an opportunity to set goals as well as gain people and business skills, Tonya Purdom said.

“This is our second year back at Buffalo Bros,” she said. “There’s usually always someone here in the evenings from four to eight and Saturday all day.”

Presley said she won a trip to Austin last year with a sleepover at a science museum through successful cookie sales.

“They pretty much stopped counting at 2,000 boxes,” she said.
