Paschal Panther Band sells mattresses to raise money

The first Saturday in February, the Paschal High School gymnasium filled with high school students and the smell of brand new box springs. It was Paschal’s first annual Mattress Palooza benefiting the Paschal Panther Band.

“I would use the money for band fees or a class trip,” said Sydney Brun-Ozuna, a freshman saxophone player.

Parents, faculty and staff showed up for the sale, which took place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We have been doing this in the metroplex since April 2013, but this is our first one here at Paschal High School. Today is going great, they came out super enthusiastic and people came out to really support the band,” said Mitzi Gray of Purple Frog Custom Fundraising.

Students hoped to raise enough money for a class trip in the spring.

Bryan Wright, Paschal High School band director, said although final figures from the sale have not been tallied, he believes the event was a success.

“I think we had a great turnout,” he said. “It was definitely worth having.”
