A local photographer plans to create a photograph project of 100,000 portraits of Fort Worth citizens before the city reaches 1 million in population.

Known as “The Fort Worth Photo Project, “ the photographs are free and open to the public.

Raul Mosley, a wedding photographer and owner of Redeemed Expressions Photography, uses the portraits to tell stories with newsworthy qualities, he said. The portraits have captions ranging from personal stories to traditional journalism to human-interest stories.

“When I started, my goal was to take 20,000 portraits before Fort Worth turned 1 million in population,” he said. “That will be in about eight years. I can’t imagine calling it quits then. I like talking with and photographing interesting people too much…so now I’m dreaming of 100,000 portraits.”

According to an article on fortworthtexas.gov, Fort Worth ranks no. 16 on the list of the fastest-growing cities in the United States. In 2013, Fort Worth’s total population was about 778,000. Residents of the 76109 make up more than 21,000.

Alex Terzo, a 109 resident, said she felt the Fort Worth Photo Project was an opportunity she could not pass up and is happy with how her photos turned out.

“My favorite part about this project is that it does not just put a face to Fort Worth, but it also has the power to bring the people of Fort Worth together,” she said. “Being a part of the project, I have been able to meet new people and friends that I would not have otherwise met.”

For now, the photos will be featured on the Fort Worth Photo Project website as well as Facebook and Instagram.

Mosley hopes to eventually put together a book or have the portraits temporarily displayed in a Fort Worth art museum. Mosley also wants to create an interactive art display to go along with the portraits, he said, by capturing video footage of Fort Worth citizens sharing the portraits.
