TCU aims to help students with on-campus resources

TCU wants students to thrive on campus, and it provides various resources to help them do that.

Some of these resources include the Writing Center, the Center for Career and Professional Development and the Counseling and Mental Health Center.

The Writing Center provides feedback on all aspects of writing, including structure, content, style and grammar concerns. Students can submit essays, reports and more for feedback.

Students can schedule face-to-face appointments or submit their work online to be reviewed.

“I use the online option a lot because it’s convenient, helpful and my work is sent back timely,” Ali Achord, sophomore child development major, said. “The feedback always strengthens my writing.”

The main center is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Reed Hall, suite 419. Night hours are Sunday-Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the second floor commons conference room of Tom Brown-Pete Wright.

The Center for Career and Professional Development helps students prepare for life after college and assist alumni through career transitions.

“The Career Center has been extremely helpful during my first year of college,” first-year student Michelle Lowell said. “They provided me resources to help improve my interview skills and write an impressive résumé.”

Through career advising, workshops, conferences and career fairs, the Career Center helps students and alumni develop job-search and career decision-making skills they will use in college and beyond.

The Career Center’s primary office is located in Jarvis Hall. Administration, advising and marketing are located on the first floor, and employer relations is on the second floor.

The Counseling and Mental Health Center provides a variety of professional services to students, including counseling, medication management, consultation and referrals. According to the website, it promotes psychological health and well-being and provides resources for TCU students to cope with personal and academic challenges.

Services are free for all current TCU students.

The Counseling Center also has a 24/7 counseling line that offers help to all TCU students, even during semester breaks. The counseling line number is 817-257-7233.
