Pi Beta Phi Sorority at Dance Marathon

TCU’s Pi Beta Phi was the top fundraiser for the Dance Marathon, raising $13,402 for Cook Children’s Medical Center.

Pi Phi spent six months putting together a team to fundraise for the children at Cook Children’s. The sorority was the fastest growing team of the TCU Dance Marathon.

“This year, Pi Phi was able to take the No. 1 spot in both fundraising and total people registered,” said Lexie Perez, president of TCU Dance Marathon. “They had 73 people registered for the Pi Phi team. This is a huge increase from last year with only 56 registered, raising $7,881.”

The sorority’s goal for this year was to raise $10,000, but they surpassed it by $3,402. Pi Phi raised money by reaching out to family and friends in person, as well as through email and social media, asking for donations to support their participation in the 12-hour event.

Pi Phi team captain Paige Krieger said, “As a sorority, we attended many benefit nights at local restaurants and received donations from members of our chapter who couldn’t attend the event but still wanted to contribute to such an amazing cause.”

The girls who were unable to attend the event donated money through the TCUDM Venmo account. The Pi Phi team got credit for each donation through Venmo if they mentioned “Pi Phi.”

During the event, Pi Phis were spending time with the children and their families, participating in the yoga and Zumba sessions and teaching the 10-minute morale dance. The dance is taught throughout the event and performed at the end.

“We had so much fun dancing for the kids who can’t, and it was truly an honor to support Lexie and be the team captain of a group of girls that were so excited about and dedicated to the cause,” Krieger said.

Perez and Krieger said they hope the Pi Beta Phi team can increase the amount of money they fundraise for next year’s TCU Dance Marathon.
