The Vietnam Student Association presented “Amazing Vietnam: The Golden Oath” on Friday night to display their culture to the TCU community.

The event began with dinner, followed by contemporary music and folk dances in a storyline to simulate an experience of Vietnam. All of the performers in the show were students and members of VSA.

The main message of the show was loyalty and one’s love for his country and the means one would endure to protect his country, said VSA president Nguyen Le. It also allowed the students to express their own loyalty and love for Vietnam.

Students that attended were impressed with VSA’s ability to include multiple aspects into one performance.

“They were able to include Vietnam’s history, culture and even some humor while bringing their own uniqueness to the TCU community,” said sophomore Student Government Association representative Abbey Widick. She added that she was amazed by the way that the group worked together.

This event gives VSA members an opportunity to share their culture with others while doing something they are passionate about.

A lot of work goes into this event. Some of the students enjoy performing and being on stage, but others are able to help out in a variety of ways, whether it be fundraising or even creating our set, said Le.

Some even say the show is a must-see. “I honestly think everyone should come once before they graduate,” said Widick.

The ability to share their culture with the TCU campus does not go unnoticed by VSA. “I can see that TCU has focused on cultural diversity by allowing us to show our culture and our country,” said Le after the event.

The members of VSA see “Amazing Vietnam” as an opportunity to show the beauty of their country. The group first started writing the script for “Amazing Vietnam” last November and started practicing in early January, said Le. Practices were held every Friday night and Saturday night from 7 p.m.-10 p.m.

Their hard work paid off. “Amazing Vietnam” sold 290 tickets in 10 days.
