The Frogs offense started out ice-cold. They missed their first six shots and did not score in the first five minutes of the game. TCU overcame the slow start to head into halftime trailing by just three points, 30-27.
Neither team gained much of an advantage in the third quarter trading buckets throughout the period. The Bulldogs pulled away in the final minutes of the quarter as Yale’s Roxy Barahman hit a dagger to extend their lead to 52-43 after 30 minutes of play.
TCU refused to give up and continued to chip away at the lead. The closest the Horned Frogs got to the Bulldogs was within five points as sophomore guard Amber Ramirez drained a three-pointer with 2:41 remaining in the contest. However, the Frogs then missed their next six shots to close out the game. The Bulldogs drained 10 of their 13 shots in the fourth quarter to prevent a Horned Frog comeback.
The Frogs were led in scoring by Amy Okonkwo with 18 points off the bench. Ramirez and senior guard Toree Thompson added 13 points each while freshman guard Lauren Heard recorded her first double-digit scoring night of her young career.
Now at 3-1 on the season, the Horned Frogs will travel to Northridge, Calif. for the Warner Center Marriott Thanksgiving Classic. The Frogs will begin the tournament Friday night against the Arizona Wildcats and follow that match-up with a date against either CSUN or Idaho Saturday evening.
