Senior Trevor Johnson, fresh off a couple victories in the USF match Friday, led the way again for TCU. Johnson and his doubles partner, Alastair Gray, downed SMU’s Eladio Fabregas and Gardiner Perotti 6-3 to help give TCU the doubles point.
Gray made his first appearance since his singles match against San Diego Jan. 27 was retired.
“It was nice to see Alastair back on the court even though it was just for doubles,” head coach David Roditi said.
Then, in the singles matches, No. 80 Johnson took care of SMU’s Charles Nettlefold 6-1, 6-0 to remain unbeaten in singles’ play on the season.
That was followed by Eduardo Roldan picking up a victory over Perotti 6-4, 6-0, and No. 36 Alex Rybakov, who defeated Jan-Simon Vrbsky 6-2, 6-3, to cap off a 4-0 sweep of SMU.
The Horned Frogs finished off a busy opening month with a 5-2 record and now enjoy a 17-day break before returning to action Feb. 28 vs. Tulsa.
“We need that time to get down in the trenches and work,” Roditi said. “We are not where we need to be and we have a lot of work ahead of us.”
Up next, TCU (5-2) will welcome Tulsa (3-7) to town Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m.
