Track and field team records multiple wins and personal bests in San Antonio

The Horned Frogs won four events at the Roadrunner Invitational last weekend.

Sprinting Events

In the men’s 100-meter dash, senior Jalen Miller secured a first-place finish behind a season-best time of 10.29 seconds and senior Emeilo Ferguson placed third with a time of 10.4 seconds. Additionally, Ferguson placed third in the 200-meter dash with a personal best– 21.21 seconds.

For the women, senior Briona Oliver placed seventh behind a time of 12 seconds in the 100-meter dash.

In the women’s 400-meter dash, first-year student Kennedy Crawford placed sixth behind a personal-best time of 56.2 seconds.

Sophomore Brittney Trought placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles behind a time of 13.79 seconds and junior Lexi Aitken placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 59.38 seconds.

Distance Events

In the men’s 800-meter run, senior Kevin McClanahan secured a first-place finish, recording a personal-best time of 1:52.54.

First-year student Evelyn Mandel placed sixth behind a season-best time of 4:33.65 in the women’s 1600-meter run.

In the 2000-meter steeplechase, junior Erin Barth placed second for the women behind a time of 7:20.96. For the men, junior Brendon Hicks placed fourth with a time of 6:14.37.

Relays

In the men’s 4×400-meter relay, the team of sophomore Jostyn Andrews, junior Darrion Flowers, sophomore Derrick Mokaleng and McClanahan secured a first-place finish with a nation-leading time of 3:04.54.

In the 4×100-meter relay, the men’s squad of Ferguson, Miller, Flowers and sophomore Emmanuel Ogwo secured a first-place finish behind a time of 39.68 seconds.

Field Events

For the men’s throws, sophomore Isaiah Rogers placed third in the shot put with a season-best distance of 58 feet, 1.25 inches (17.71m). Sophomore Ryan Camp placed second in the discus throw, recording a distance of 177 feet, 2 inches (54.01m).

In the hammer throw, junior Fellan McGuigan placed second with a distance of 209 feet, 6 inches (63.85m). Sophomore Ryan Camp placed fourth with a personal-best distance of 196 feet, 1 inch (59.76m). Junior Justin Sanchez placed fifth behind a personal-best distance of 194 feet, 8 inches (59.34m).

In the women’s long jump, senior Briona Oliver  finished in sixth place with a distance of 18 feet, 7 inches (5.66m).

The Horned Frogs will travel to Austin, Texas to compete at the 2018 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Wednesday, March 28.
