Student death confirmed by Travis County officials

A body found in Lake Travis has been identified as a TCU student who fell overboard during a boating trip over fall break.

Authorities positively identified first-year student Jack Elliott this week. His body was discovered by the Austin police on Oct. 24.

“Those who knew Jack know that he was really happy at TCU,” Kathy Cavins-Tull, vice chancellor for student affairs, wrote in a campus-wide email. “He had a lot of friends and felt that TCU was the place he was meant to be. “

Mr. Elliott, of Newport Beach, California, was involved in the pre-business program and was also a member of the Lamda Chi Alpha fraternity.

TCU will hold a gathering in Mr. Elliott’s honor Monday, Nov. 4 and all are invited to attend. The vigil will begin at 7 p.m.

On Oct. 14, he was traveling across Lake Travis from Devil’s Cove to the North Point Marina when fell off the boat.

Texas Search and Rescue brought 16 searchers, five boats and nine dogs to help with the search.
