Soccer team in Lubbock

The Horned Frogs are in Lubbock today for the 2011 Red Raider Classic and could rise above .500 by the end of the weekend.

TCU headed to the Texas Tech campus with a 2-3 record to face off with The University of Toledo at 5 p.m. and Hofstra University Sunday at 10 a.m.

The Frogs split a pair of games last weekend as they beat Texas State 3-1 in San Marcos Friday and fell 2-0 to Missouri State at the Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium Sunday.

Head coach Dan Abdalla said the team showed character Sunday and needed to work on finishing chances the offense creates.

“We’ve had some opportunities to see some success in keeping the ball, in combining with each other more [and] putting teams on their heels,” Abdalla said. “Now we just have to be sharper in the final third [of the field].”

TCU has never faced Toledo (2-2-1) or Hofstra (2-1) in program history.

Notes: Senior midfielder Kaylie Garcia was named the Mountain West Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a goal and assisting another against Texas State Sept. 2. Senior forward Jordan Calhoun returned from an ankle injury in Sunday’s game against Missouri and played 36 minutes in the loss. Freshman forward Dixie Kurrus and sophomore midfielder Kristen Barg missed both games last weekend and are questionable for the Red Raider Classic.
