Women’s tennis hosts UTA tonight

The TCU women’s tennis team will look to regain some momentum this afternoon when they face the University of Texas at Arlington.

Monday marked the start of a busy week for the Lady Frogs. They are slated for three matches in only six days.

No. 28 Texas A&M proved too much for the team Monday evening and defeated the Frogs 6-1 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, making TCU’s overall record 4-3.

The UTA Mavericks, the defending Southland Conference champions, played yesterday against Nicholls State in Arlington. The Mavericks won 6-1 against the Colonels.

“We have some health issues right now and that’s hard, but luckily we have enough depth in our team to take care of that,” head coach Dave Borelli said.

The 49th-ranked Lady Frogs will aim to break the streak of late afternoon losses this season. All three of the team’s losses came after a 2 p.m. or later start.

“Regardless of the loss, we are ready for the match against UTA tomorrow,” senior Gaby Mastromarino said.

Borelli said sophomore Millie Nichols will be out for a few more weeks while junior Federica Denti was just added back to the lineup.

“We are just eager to get back onto the court. We beat them last year, but it was a close match,” Mastromarino said. “I think coming back from a doubles loss against A&M will be a huge factor in the match and will give us a lot of momentum going into the singles.”
