The football team started a new tradition of walking through tailgaters in Frog Alley on their way to the stadium on Saturday.

Before walking into the new Amon G. Carter Stadium, Head Coach Gary Patterson and his team greeted fans in Frog Alley Saturday afternoon creating a new TCU tradition.

“This is my first college football game altogether, and it’s my first TCU game on top of that,” freshman political science and economics double major Bryan Tony said. “I played football in high school and to see the tradition from high school to college really elevated to the next level was really cool.”

Many other teams in the Big 12 already do a similar game day walk, said Jackie Torda, a graduate student who works in the TCU Athletics Department. She predicted that fans would be surprised with new game day elements. The department has worked to engage the crowd more with the changes of this season, she said.

The TCU Rangers and cheerleaders led the procession along with SuperFrog and the Fort Worth Police. Sirens and cheers welcomed the players and Patterson as they walked through the crowd of tailgaters.

“I shook hands with Coach Patterson,” sophomore nursing major Kelsey Chapman said. “He was ready for the game. He was all decked out.”

The team will continue the “Frog Walk” tradition at their next home game against Virginia, Torda said.
