Chef Tim Love hosted a grand opening event at his food truck on Thursday.

The event included free food from the Big Purple Truck and free t-shirts for people who followed @bptTCU on Twitter or liked its page on Facebook.

“We thought it would be a great thing to bring a little of the food to students,” Love said.

Members of the TCU community lined up from noon until 2 p.m. to receive pork sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, and hummus for free. Customers received vouchers for the free food while waiting in line.

Other items on the menu included pork and cheddar hush puppies, bacon-wrapped smoked jalapeños stuffed with chopped brisket, and a wide array of salads.

The food is based on dishes from Love’s restaurants, the Woodshed, the Love Shack, and the Lonesome Dove Café, he said.

The truck will be outside Sid Richardson Hall Monday through Friday until 3 or 4 p.m., Love said. In the evenings and on weekends, it will be at different locations both on and off campus, including Worth Hills and at TCU football games.

The truck has been open since the beginning of the fall semester, he said.

“We have been getting a lot of positive feedback,” Love said.

The prices range from $4 dollars a dish to $11 a dish, he said. The Big Purple Truck accepts cash, credit, Frog Bucks, and Campus Cash.

The prices were manageable and the food was delicious, first-year business student Cam Means said.

The Big Purple Truck and the Chunky Monkey are the only food trucks stationed on the TCU campus.
