TCU womens basketball set to take on West Virginia Saturday

Spirits were high Wednesday evening when TCU earned its first Big 12 Conference victory, but the celebration could end Saturday when West Virginia comes to Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

The Frogs (8-17 overall, 1-13 Big 12) will look to win their second consecutive game against West Virginia (15-10, 7-7 Big 12) after upsetting Oklahoma State 64-63. The Mountaineers enter the game on six days rest after defeating Iowa State 68-66 on the road.

Saturday evening will be the second time that the first-year Big 12 programs will play one another. The Mountaineers won the Jan. 15 meeting 58-50 in Morgantown behind 27 combined points from Christal Caldwell and Taylor Palmer.

The Frogs went into halftime during the first meeting tied 27-27 but let a two point deficit snowball into eight in the final two minutes of the game. Veja Hamilton had a game-high 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting.

The Horned Frog scoring trio of Zahna Medley, Kamy Cole and Natalie Ventress combined for 22 points but only converted eight of their 39 field goal attempts. The Frogs will look to better a 3-for-17 performance from 3-point range in the first matchup.

The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the DMC. Game coverage will be available on KTCU FM 88.7 The Choice.
